Tip #6: Perfect the Pour
Tip #6: Perfect the Pour
The pour should be just right - not too fast, not too slow.
☕️ If the pour is too fast your coffee will taste weak and bitter. This means your grind is too coarse and you’ll need to make it finer for proper extraction.
☕️ If the pour is too slow, your coffee will taste too strong and oily. This is a sign of over-extraction meaning your grind is too fine, it needs to be coarser.

Tip #5: Dial in your Grind
Getting the grind just right is key to brewing a perfect cup ☕️
🔹Too Fine? Your shot might overextract, leading to a bitter and oily pour
🔹 Too Course? Expected underextraction, leaving you with a watery and bitter taste

Tip #4: Tamping your Coffee
Tip #4: Tamping your Coffee
For a perfect shot, always tamp your coffee evenly and with firm pressure. Uneven tamping can lead to channeling, causing an uneven extraction and ruining the flavour.
Pro Tip: Avoid knocking the portafilter with the tamper to remove grinds. This can split the puck and create channels. Instead gently clear away excess grind with your fingers 👌
